About The Position

We are seeking an Assistant Project Manager (APM) to support commercial HVAC and mechanical construction projects within a hands-on subcontractor environment. This role is designed for someone ready to grow into a Project Manager, with increasing ownership over project execution. You’ll work closely with field teams, vendors, and leadership to support HVAC systems, piping installations, and day-to-day project coordination from preconstruction through closeout. This is an excellent opportunity for a Project Engineer or junior APM looking to build a long-term career in project management.

Requirements

2–5 years of experience in commercial HVAC or mechanical construction (APM, Project Engineer, or similar)
Experience with commercial HVAC systems (residential-only experience will not be considered)
Background working for a mechanical contractor or HVAC subcontractor
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications
Strong interest in growing into a Project Manager role
Basic understanding of scheduling and cost tracking tools
Comfortable in a hands-on contractor environment
Strong communication and organizational skills

Responsibilities

Support execution of commercial HVAC and mechanical projects from preconstruction through closeout
Coordinate with field crews, subcontractors, and internal teams across active job sites
Track project schedules, costs, and progress, escalating issues as needed
Read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, and construction documents
Assist with RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation
Coordinate with vendors and support procurement of materials and equipment
Communicate with clients, inspectors, and internal stakeholders
Participate in jobsite visits to support field operations and monitor progress
