About The Position

Firestorm is looking for a Junior Project Engineer, xCell. This is a great early career opportunity to work directly on defense hardware programs. The role involves working closely with the Technical Program Manager and the xCell engineering team to keep programs on track, manage technical details, and contribute to engineering tasks. The position offers the chance to be a force multiplier for a lean, fast-moving team, with responsibilities ranging from updating project schedules and tracking actions to working with suppliers on quotes and building 3D models for design decisions. It provides early exposure to the full lifecycle of defense hardware programs, from engineering to customer interaction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Systems, Industrial, or related field)
  • U.S. Citizenship required due to ITAR regulations, with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
  • 2+ years of experience ideally, but strong recent graduates and early-career engineers are also considered
  • Organized and detail-oriented with a proven ability to close loops and track actions
  • Technically curious and comfortable digging into engineering details
  • Strong communicator capable of working effectively across functions and levels
  • U.S. Citizenship required due to ITAR regulations

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with project management tools (Jira, MS Project, or equivalent)
  • SolidWorks or other CAD experience
  • Experience with supplier interactions or procurement support
  • Interest in defense, manufacturing, or hardware development

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Technical Program Manager to maintain project schedules, track milestones and action items, and ensure accountability for commitments across xCell programs.
  • Assist xCell engineers with technical tasks, including creating 3D models and 2D drawings, gathering technical details, and helping resolve engineering questions.
  • Support the team with quote requests, supplier follow-ups, and supplier communications to ensure timely delivery of necessary information to the engineering team.
  • Coordinate across engineering, manufacturing, and program teams to facilitate information flow and keep actions moving forward.
  • Participate in select customer and supplier site visits (approximately 10% travel) to understand the operational and commercial environment.
  • Help maintain accurate program documentation, meeting notes, and status reports for the broader team.
