CA$70,000 - CA$90,000Onsite

About The Position

The Junior Product Engineer is part of MTC Solutions’ Product Application Engineering team, the group responsible for transforming product data and research findings into design tools that enable engineers and designers to specify and apply our hardware confidently. In this role, you’ll translate engineering test data and research outcomes into clear, practical, and user-friendly documentation, including design guides, white papers, catalogs, spreadsheets, and digital tools. You’ll work at the intersection of technical precision and communication clarity, helping engineers across North America design better timber connections with MTC hardware. This position is intended for an early-career engineer who is eager to develop expertise in mass timber design, technical documentation, and product application engineering under the guidance of experienced engineering mentors. The role combines engineering analysis, technical communication, and product application, providing exposure to research, design, software tools, and industry engagement within the growing mass timber sector.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Timber Engineering (or equivalent background)
  • 0–4 years of engineering experience
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT), Candidate to the Engineering Profession (CPI), or eligibility to obtain registration
  • Basic understanding of design standards such as CSA O86, NDS, Eurocode 5, or similar
  • Strong technical writing and analytical skills
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in English required
  • Technically curious and detail-oriented engineer who enjoys bridging the gap between complex data and practical design solutions.
  • Takes pride in clarity, turning dense calculations into information that others can trust and easily apply.
  • Motivated by collaboration, open to feedback, and thrives in an environment where engineering, creativity, and communication meet.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in creating and updating design guides, white papers, and engineering resources.
  • Interpret test results and research findings under the guidance of senior engineers to produce design parameters and engineering tables.
  • Apply relevant design standards (CSA O86, NDS, Eurocode 5, AS/NZS) and document appropriate assumptions and limits.
  • Work with the R&D team to incorporate data, the Marketing team to refine visual layout and UX/UI, and the Technical Service team to address recurring industry questions.
  • Support the development and maintenance of calculation spreadsheets and digital engineering tools (e.g., CADwork plugins or software tools).
  • Identify gaps or ambiguities in existing resources and propose updates that simplify the designer experience.
  • Interpret data from the R&D team and implement it in design documentation.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communication department to ensure the materials are clear and accessible.
  • Coordinate with Technical Service to understand where designers need more guidance.
  • Maintain and improve MTC’s library of design documents so that our hardware remains the easiest to specify and use in the industry.
