About The Position

The Royal Group’s mission is to provide value-added solutions to the most demanding customers. We strive to foster a culture built on growth, values, and teamwork. Your hard work and dedication pay off. This role involves assisting in the design and engineering of retail display and packaging solutions, including PDQ’s, pallet programs, endcaps, in-line trays, and sidekicks. The designer will develop CAD models, die lines, and assembly drawings, learning about material specifications, freight, store handling, durability, and cost considerations. The position also supports graphic development, applying brand guidelines, and producing 3D renderings. The role requires rotating across structural and visual work streams, developing an understanding of how structural decisions affect graphic execution and vice versa, and taking on growing project ownership. Responsibilities also include assisting in generating Bills of Materials (BOMs), cut files, and supporting documents, and participating in internal reviews to learn design standards and quality assurance requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Graphic Design, Packaging Design, or a related field (or equivalent training).
  • 0-2 years of professional experience; internship or co-op experience in structural packaging, display design, or graphic design strongly preferred.
  • A portfolio demonstrating aptitude in both disciplines. Coursework, internship or personal projects showing structural/3D thinking and graphic design fundamentals.
  • Foundational skills in CAD software (Artios CAD or equivalent exposure) and the Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
  • Strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and engineering of retail display and packaging solutions (PDQ’s, pallet programs, endcaps, in-line tray, and sidekicks) under the direction of the Design Manager and Senior Structural Designer.
  • Develop CAD models, die lines, and assembly drawings to TRG’s documentation and retailer compliance standards, with review and guidance from senior team members.
  • Learn material specification – board grades, adhesives, and finishes, the freight, store handling, durability, and cost considerations behind those choices.
  • Participate in sample creation and prototyping, validating construction, stability, and ease of assembly.
  • Support graphic development for retail displays and packaging, layouts, production art, and file preparation from creative exploration through final release, under the guidance of the Visual Communications Team.
  • Apply established brand guidelines across display programs, developing an eye for visual consistency and retail impact at shelf.
  • Assist in producing 3D renderings and presentation visuals that communicate design intent to sales teams, clients, and retailers.
  • Learn print production fundamentals, color specifications, print processes, and substrate considerations through hands-on file preparation.
  • Rotate across structural and visual work streams based on pipeline demand, mentorship plans, and skill development goals.
  • Develop the habit of designing across disciplines, learning to anticipate how structural decisions affect graphic execution and vice versa.
  • Take on growing project ownership as proficiency is demonstrated in each discipline.
  • Assist in generating Bills of Materials (BOMs), cut files and supporting documents for Estimating, Production, and Fulfillment, with senior review.
  • Participate in internal NINJA and QA reviews as a contributor, learning TRG’s design and SOP’s and quality assurance requirements across both disciplines.
