About The Position

Sedgman is currently looking for a Junior Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team in Vancouver BC. The ideal candidate will have prior experience providing mechanical engineering support within a heavy, industrial setting helping deliver high-quality projects. As part of the mechanical team, this individual will be responsible for the design of mechanical platework and piping, equipment sizing/selection, client support activities, onsite support and quality control. Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Between 2-5 years of relevant experience as a Mechanical engineer on mining, energy, pulp and paper or heavy industrial projects.
  • Must have P.Eng or EIT Designation, or in process of obtaining EGBC registration.
  • Relevant experience in the design of process piping, preparation of equipment datasheets and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Plant3D; ASME Code knowledge considered an asset.
  • Ability to safely and effectively self-manage time, priorities and activities.
  • Dedicated team player with strong interpersonal skills; will be self-motivated, quick to deliver on projects.
  • Strong organizational skills, technical competence and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, strong, oral, verbal and written English; French is considered an asset.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mechanical design support through the engineering study phases PEA, PFS, FS, and into front-end engineering and detailed design.
  • Stay up-to-date with advancements in mining processing technology and recommend implementation of new equipment or processes.
  • Develop specifications for mechanical equipment and designs for process platework and pipework.
  • Contribute to proposals, scope development, and continuous design improvements.
  • Support the preparation of engineering deliverables, design layouts, PFD’s, P&ID’s, specifications, bill of quantities, materials lists, RFQ packages and cost estimates.
  • Produce and monitor engineering work hour budgets during study, tender and detailed design stage as required.
  • Provide technical support to the team of designers for basic / detailed engineering and during construction phases.
  • Build and maintain client relationships and respond to client requests, travel to various client sites, attend project meetings and conduct field reviews as required.
  • Always ensure health and safety policies are followed at all sites.
