About The Position

The Junior High Volleyball Coach will lead student-athletes and support the overall volleyball program at Henley Middle School. The coach will adhere to all Klamath County School District (KCSD) guidelines, policies, and requirements as outlined in the KCSD Athletic Handbook. This position requires availability for after-school practices 2–3 times per week and travel with the team for competitions.

Requirements

  • Must complete all required KCSD trainings and certifications.
  • Must obtain current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Demonstrate the physical ability to comply with OSHA and district safety regulations.
  • Work within the district’s communicable disease control plan, including bloodborne pathogens protocols, and maintain awareness of hazardous materials as identified in MSDS documentation.
  • Ensure student safety and security at all times.

Responsibilities

  • Instruct athletes in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of volleyball.
  • Plan, organize, and conduct individual and small-group practices.
  • Assess player skills and monitor development during practices and competitions.
  • Develop and implement game strategies.
  • Supervise athletes during all practices, contests, and team activities.
  • Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete injury.
  • Model sportsmanship and maintain professional conduct with players, officials, and spectators.
  • Maintain, inventory, and ensure the proper care and security of equipment and facilities.
  • Distribute uniforms, equipment, and supplies.
  • Complete administrative tasks including eligibility forms, emergency cards, rosters, and related documentation as needed/required.
  • Demonstrate and model nondiscriminatory practices in all program activities.
  • Report directly to the Athletic Director and building Principal.
  • Maintain accurate inventories and oversee the issuance, collection, and cleaning of equipment.
  • Ensure facilities and equipment are safe and report concerns in writing to the Athletic Director.
  • Establish organized practice schedules that maximize efficiency and align with district and state regulations.
  • Communicate effectively with Athletic Director.
  • Report injuries in a accurate and timely manner.
  • Clearly communicate expectations, responsibilities, and strategies, to student-athletes.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of volleyball skills and strategies necessary for student success.
  • Effectively teach and model fundamental and advanced skills.
  • Implement a program that supports physical conditioning and mental preparedness.
  • Prepare athletes for competition through structured and purposeful practices.
  • Take proactive measures to prevent injuries and respond appropriately when injuries occur.
  • Ensure teams represent the school with professionalism, sportsmanship, and appropriate conduct.
  • Foster a positive, success-oriented team culture.
  • Promote academic achievement and provide guidance as needed.
  • Represent the school and program professionally in all interactions, resolving conflicts constructively with officials, staff, parents, and spectators.
