About The Position

Insurance Administrative Solutions (IAS) is a third-party provider of comprehensive administrative solutions for clients in the insurance industry. They offer a business process outsourcing solution that helps insurers optimize administrative workload, bolster industry expertise, leverage emerging technologies, and streamline operations. IAS provides value through compassionate customer service, efficient processing, and quality results in a collaborative team environment where all employees' input is valued. This role involves working directly with an Underwriter to learn how to review insurance applications against carrier guidelines to determine eligibility. The position requires assisting agents with application comments or questions, logging applications, calculating premiums, preparing and balancing CWA Input Forms, and inputting CWA into the database when applicable. The Junior Underwriter will also make outgoing calls to agents or applicants to verify information, take inbound calls to relay outstanding requirement information, and complete non-medical telephone interviews with applicants. Additionally, the role includes ordering and following up on pre and post-issue requirements, and learning the differences between Federal and State Open Enrollment, Guarantee Issue, and Standard applications.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent with 1 year of proven experience in insurance, medical field, or customer service
  • Strong phone contact handling skills and active listening
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to adapt and respond to different types of people and tasks
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Problem solving ability with high level of attention to detail
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, maintain confidentiality, and uphold ethical standards
  • Confident, self-motivated individual who thrives both independently and within a team environment
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively and efficiently
  • Reliable transportation and the ability to be punctual and dependable
  • Ability to work scheduled shifts, rotate schedules with other employees for proper department staffing needs and work overtime as needed
  • May have agent license but no active appointments

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with an Underwriter to learn how to review an application for insurance coverage against a carrier’s guidelines to determine eligibility.
  • Assist agents with comments or questions about applications and the likelihood of acceptance by the company.
  • Log applications using automated log/proposal program.
  • Calculate modal premium due, noting any shortage or overage, and prepare and balance CWA Input Form.
  • Input CWA into the CWA database, when applicable.
  • Make outgoing calls to agents or applicants to verify information that is left blank or unclear on the application.
  • Take inbound calls from agents or applicants and effectively relay information to the caller about any outstanding requirements needed on the application.
  • Complete non-medical telephone interviews with applicants when necessary.
  • Order and follow up on requirements pre and post issue.
  • Learn and understand the differences between Federal and State Open Enrollment, Guarantee Issue and Standard applications.
