About The Position

WSP has a new opportunity for a Junior Geotechnical Construction Materials Field Technician based out of our Markham (Steelcase office) location. This role offers hands‑on field and office experience while working alongside experienced technicians and professionals within a leading global professional consulting firm. As a Junior Geotechnical Construction Materials Field Technician, you’ll play a key role in supporting the quality and integrity of construction projects across residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional building sites, as well as infrastructure projects that help shape our communities.

Requirements

  • College Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, or a related discipline, preferably with a focus on geotechnical engineering.
  • 1–2 years of experience working as a geotechnical or construction materials technician.
  • Familiarity with civil construction practices and testing standards (CSA, ASTM, CCIL).
  • Ability to work independently in field and laboratory environments while collaborating with supervisors and project teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with contractors and colleagues.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying conditions and committed to strict safety protocols.
  • Valid driver’s license with access to a vehicle and appropriate insurance coverage.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver technical services in both field and office environments to support geotechnical and construction materials projects.
  • Perform field Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) testing on soils, concrete, aggregate, and asphalt.
  • Conduct soil and asphalt compaction testing to verify compliance with project and industry standards.
  • Carry out subgrade, footing, and construction site inspections and observations.
  • Collect, document, and analyze field samples, providing accurate and timely results that inform critical project decisions.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and care for testing equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Champion health, safety, and quality by adhering to WSP’s field and laboratory Health & Safety programs.
