About The Position

KBR’s National Security Solutions team provides high-end engineering and advanced technology solutions to our customers in the intelligence and national security communities. In this position, your work will have a profound impact on the country’s most critical role – protecting our national security. KBR is seeing a Junior Gen AI Developer to join our team in El Segundo, CA. The MILSATCOM Systems Engineering, Integration, and Test (MSEIT) effort provides leading edge Systems Engineering & Integration (SE&I) for the US Space Force’s Space Systems Center (SSC). We support the Space Force’s acquisition of state-of-the-art satellite communications systems, providing global secure, survivable, and protected communications for our nation’s warfighters. We seek technical individuals who will thrive in a highly collaborative work environment of small teams, using the most modern tools and methodologies to tackle the challenges of integrating complex space and ground communications systems.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or a related technical discipline (or degree in progress)
  • Software development experience, including academic projects, internships, or co-op experience related to generative AI or LLM-powered applications
  • Proficiency in Python for AI/ML development, data processing, and automation through coursework, projects, or internships
  • Hands-on exposure to designing, developing, or prototyping applications using large language models (LLMs) through projects, labs, or internships
  • Foundational understanding of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) concepts, including embeddings, vector databases, and semantic search, demonstrated through coursework or projects
  • Exposure to prompt engineering, basic LLM orchestration, or agent-style workflows through academic or personal projects
  • Familiarity with LLM frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex, or Semantic Kernel through hands-on learning or experimentation

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree coursework or ongoing study in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field
  • 2+ years software development experience, including academic projects, internships, or co-op experience related to generative AI or LLM-powered applications
  • Familiarity with multi-modal AI models (text, image, audio) through academic research or side projects
  • Experience or interest in basic LLM evaluation techniques, testing methodologies, or benchmarking concepts
  • Interest in or exposure to defense, government, or high-security technology environments
  • Awareness of responsible AI principles, including bias mitigation, explainability, and ethical AI practices

Responsibilities

  • Ability to assess model outputs for correctness, relevance, and potential bias, with guidance from senior team members
  • Introductory experience deploying applications or services using cloud platforms or containerized environments (Azure exposure preferred)
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) fundamentals and collaborative development practices (e.g., Git, code reviews)
