About The Position

As a Machinery Control System Engineer (MCS) you will support lab and shipboard activities for a ship sustainment program for our U.S. Navy customer. Work alongside U.S. Navy government and civilian engineers at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintenance, installation, and testing support activities for the land-based test site as well as occasional shipboard support for installation upgrades and ship force tech assist. Requirements

  • Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degreee with 2 years experience
  • Ability to work well in a team environment coordinating tasks to support different work
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability, equipment troubleshooting, attention to detail
  • Ability to follow equipment electrical schematics
  • Ability to thoroughly document hardware installations
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills to diagnose equipment failure root causes
  • Experience using standard electronics test equipment (multimeter, oscilloscope)
  • Must be a US citizen with a DoD Secret security clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Naval or commercial shipboard machinery control systems
  • Experience with modular backplane based hardware architecture
  • Familiarity with basic networking concepts

Responsibilities

  • Provide software investigation and technical support for Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) and Industrial Control System (ICS) environments.
  • Integrating software solutions with operating systems such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6, RHEL 8, and Windows 11.
  • Support graphical user interface (GUI) integration and development using Java 8 and OpenJDK 11.
  • Assist with Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) integration utilizing Rockwell Automation PLCs and Rockwell Studio 5000, including development and troubleshooting of Structured Text, Ladder Logic, and Structured Control Language (SCL) applications.
  • Work with Detail Design Databases (D3B), relational database management systems (RDBMS), Microsoft Access, and SQL to support system design, configuration, and data management activities.
  • Contribute to testing and validation efforts through equipment virtualization, server maintenance, quality assurance processes, and test apparatus support.
  • Assist with networking infrastructure configuration and troubleshooting using command-line interfaces (CLI) and text-based configuration tools.
  • Develop Python scripts to automate routine tasks, improve efficiency, and support system operations.
  • Perform limited hardware interfacing, equipment integration, and technical drawing interpretation as required to support project objectives and assignment completion.
  • Write/develop detailed design documents related to the existing industrial control system.
  • Write/develop new processes and procedures related to the existing industrial control system.
  • Write/develop new test procedures related to the existing industrial control system.
