About The Position

The Junior Digital Innovation Engineer supports the R&D team in exploring and prototyping emerging AI/ML capabilities, evaluating new technologies, and investigating improved software development approaches. Working under the guidance of the Team Lead and senior team members, the role scans technology and literature, assists with proof-of-concept prototypes and feasibility spikes, documents findings, and presents experiment results. Independence and technical scope are expected to grow as competence and confidence increase. The role researches developments in AI/ML, emerging frameworks, and developer tooling; summarizes relevant industry sources; and helps build small-scale experiments using assigned frameworks, APIs, or platforms. It also involves documenting experiment methods and outcomes, presenting recommendations, learning the team's tools and processes, following experimentation and data-handling standards, and acting on feedback to take on progressively larger exploration work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field; alternatively, a completed coding bootcamp or equivalent self-taught portfolio demonstrating comparable practical ability.
  • 0–3 years of professional software development or technical research experience; recent graduates and career-changers with a strong portfolio are welcome.
  • Working knowledge of at least one modern programming language, such as Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, or C#.
  • Genuine curiosity about emerging technology, AI/ML capabilities, and new development tooling, evidenced through personal projects, coursework, or prior exposure.
  • Basic understanding of version control, such as Git, and the software development lifecycle.
  • Comfort working with ambiguity and unproven ideas rather than only well-defined delivery tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Research and track developments in AI/ML, emerging frameworks, and developer tooling relevant to the product and team's technology stack.
  • Summarize articles, papers, vendor releases, and community sources into internal notes; flag technologies and techniques for potential investigation.
  • Assist with small-scale proofs-of-concept and feasibility spikes under guidance from the Team Lead or senior team members.
  • Implement scoped experimental tasks using assigned frameworks, APIs, or platforms, and set up and tear down experimental environments in a controlled, low-risk manner.
  • Escalate technical blockers and scope uncertainty early.
  • Document experiment setup, methodology, results, and conclusions, including what worked, what did not, and why.
  • Use agreed tools such as Confluence and Jira to track experiments and keep documentation current.
  • Present experiment outcomes, explain what was tested and observed, and recommend whether to progress, pivot, or shelve the work.
  • Respond to questions about experiment methodology and findings.
  • Complete onboarding and learning activities, pair with senior colleagues, build proficiency in core tools and practices, and track learning goals with support.
  • Follow experiment processes, tracking conventions, documentation standards, and data-handling, security, and ethical-use guidelines.
  • Apply reviewer feedback, participate in retrospectives and knowledge-sharing sessions, and demonstrate improving technical judgment over time.
  • Build toward taking on progressively larger and less-supervised exploration work.
