OpenDataJobsWashington, DC

About The Position

Peregrine Advisors is seeking a Junior DevSecOps Engineer to help build and operate secure delivery pipelines for federal systems. This role involves developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, writing infrastructure-as-code on AWS, containerizing services, implementing monitoring and logging, and assisting with security evidence for Authority to Operate (ATO). Adaptability and a willingness to learn new technologies are crucial for success and career advancement within the firm. The work is challenging, meaningful, and offers opportunities to contribute to new capabilities and lines of business.

Requirements

  • Sole United States citizenship and the ability to obtain a Public Trust determination.
  • Hybrid role based in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, requiring regular commuting into DC.
  • 1-3 years of software development, platform, or operations engineering experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Scripting ability (Python, Bash, or PowerShell).
  • Working knowledge of continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) concepts, with hands-on experience in at least one pipeline tool.
  • Familiarity with cloud services on Amazon Web Services (AWS) and with containerization.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code (CloudFormation or Terraform).
  • Basic proficiency in writing, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Treating security and reliability as part of the build, not a gate at the end.
  • Motivation to develop as an engineer who automates manual processes and leaves an audit trail.
  • Asking for help when stuck rather than guessing.
  • Taking feedback as a route for improvement.
  • Ability to shift priorities as needed.
  • Clear communication skills.
  • Adaptability across roles and clients.
  • Caring about creating public value.
  • Experimenting, failing, learning, and repeating quickly.
  • Desire to own an outcome rather than be handed a task.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to FISMA compliance, NIST SP 800-53 controls, or Authority to Operate (ATO) processes.
  • Vulnerability scanning or security tooling experience (SAST, DAST, or policy-as-code).
  • Amazon Web Services exposure or certification.
  • Federal information technology experience.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted developer tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Building and maintaining continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines that take services from commit to deployment the same way every time, including progressive delivery strategies (blue/green and canary deployments) with automated health checks and rollback.
  • Writing infrastructure-as-code on Amazon Web Services (AWS) so environments are created from templates, not by hand.
  • Containerizing services and keeping images patched, scanned, and small.
  • Wiring up the monitoring, logging, and vulnerability scanning that make systems observable and provably secure.
  • Helping assemble the security evidence that carries a system through its Authority to Operate (ATO).
  • Building security into the development process (shift-left practice).
  • Utilizing AI-assisted engineering tools like Amazon Q Developer.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision with the employee premium fully paid and half of dependent premiums.
  • Employer-paid life, accidental death, and short-term and long-term disability insurance.
  • A 401(k) matched 100% up to 4% of salary, vesting immediately.
  • Unlimited paid time off.
  • Sponsored professional certifications and continuing education.
