About The Position

The Junior Mechanical Designer is a trusted entry-level project design team assistant, working under the direct supervision of the Lead Trade Designer (or Engineer) to provide valuable design and project management support to the team. This includes performing certain engineering design & project functions, including (but not limited to), surveys, calculations, equipment selection & design layouts. The Junior Designer thoroughly understands the company project lifecycle, company design and filing standards, and has a demonstrated ability to use the company’s tools and applications to execute project deliverables. The Junior Designer uses polished communication and interpersonal skills to become a reliable support system for others and develops professional networks by taking opportunities to build relationships for the purpose of achieving business goals. The Junior Designer also uses solid problem-solving skills to participate in the planning and execution of project plans and work sets. The Junior Designer assists in delivering projects to successful completion by actively supporting the design team with all project phases, and effectively communicating with peers, supervisors, vendors, consultants, clients & stakeholders. The Junior Designer also begins training for the Job Captain function. Part of this training may include taking on Job Captain responsibilities.

Requirements

  • 4-year Engineering degree.
  • Great interpersonal skills.
  • Polished communication skills (both verbal & writing).
  • Highly organized and composed under pressure.
  • Proven time management ability: able to manage strict timelines with multiple projects to meet deadlines under high-pressure environment.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD & REVIT.
  • Possesses a keen eye for detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Passing score on Fundamentals of Professional Engineering (FE) exam preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering design & project functions, including surveys, calculations, equipment selection & design layouts.
  • Understand and apply basic duct and pipe (water and steam) sizing principles.
  • Understand all company drawing conventions & filing standards to ably draft any type of Mechanical System plan, detail, riser, and schedule.
  • Understand the basic principles of heating and cooling load calculations to perform proper take-offs, basic hand calculations and enter data into a computer calculation program.
  • Recognize which codes and standards apply to a project.
  • With supervision, survey basic systems and create existing condition plans.
  • Actively support design team with assigned project tasks.
  • Understand and consistently execute drawing set-ups, project design standards, project filing standards, issue sheets, project phasing and project archiving standards.
  • Establish professional relationships for the purpose of achieving business goals.
  • Work with others to develop and execute project work plans.
  • Implement steps toward resolving issues.
  • Demonstrate client-service focus and attitude by taking a "client is always right" attitude and focusing on taking advantage of opportunities to satisfy internal & external customers.
