The role works with engineering teams on database design and optimization, supports operational reliability and security, and applies DevOps practices to database administration. This position operates in a hybrid office environment three days per week. The role includes off-hours on-call rotations in Central Time and scheduled maintenance, including patching, very large database (VLDB) index work, and disaster recovery testing.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience administering and optimizing PostgreSQL environments, including transactional replication expertise.
  • Experience with GCP Cloud SQL PostgreSQL and solid PostgreSQL database management knowledge.
  • Experience with Terraform/infrastructure as code and GitHub for managing database infrastructure changes.
  • Knowledge of high-availability architectures and disaster recovery planning and execution.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with other cloud database platforms, such as Azure SQL and AWS RDS.
  • Experience in a high-volume, fintech, or securities transactional environment.

Responsibilities

  • Implement all database changes through infrastructure as code using Terraform and GitHub pull requests.
  • Manage large transactional replication with low-latency delivery, using BigQuery as a replication target, and tune performance and cost.
  • Establish backup and restore procedures, point-in-time recovery (PITR), high-availability and failover testing, disaster recovery runbooks, and an overall database support plan.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on schema reviews, query optimization, and BigQuery governance.
  • Handle database security and audit tasks.
  • Automate database operations, manage CI/CD for database changes, and maintain modern monitoring and alerting.
  • Support incident response and participate in off-hours on-call rotations in Central Time.
  • Participate in scheduled maintenance, including patching, VLDB index work, and disaster recovery testing.
