About The Position

The Junior Data Scientist position involves collecting, cleansing, and validating data to ensure accuracy and consistency for analysis. The role requires searching for patterns, trends, and relationships in data sets to inform business strategy. Additionally, the position involves developing, training, and deploying algorithms to predict outcomes and automate decisions, such as using neural networks and decision trees. Proficiency in SQL for data analysis and interpretation, as well as experience with data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI, and/or statistical analysis/programming languages like Python or R, are essential. The role also includes preparing administrative, statistical, and/or fiscal documents pertaining to departmental activity and planning/organizing a component of an agency or institutional program. On-site attendance is an essential function of the position, requiring direct interaction with staff, clients, and on-site office resources. Requirements

  • Proficiency in SQL (tSQL, pSQL, GoogleSQL) for data analysis and interpretation.
  • Use of data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau or Power BI), and/or statistical analysis/programming (e.g., Python or R).
  • Knowledge of the methods of organization and management.
  • Knowledge of public administration.
  • Knowledge of agency policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of grant or contract program requirements.
  • Knowledge of the legislative process.
  • Knowledge of basic research and statistical techniques.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations relating to administration of assigned programs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to evaluate potential outcomes and design ways to use data to prove or disprove perspectives.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment in analyzing situations and making decisions.
  • Ability to organize and present facts and opinions.
  • Proficiently using the OESC’s standard software (Microsoft Office - Word, Outlook, Excel, Access, and Teams), and the Internet.
  • Ability to learn other software as needed.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move objects of up to 25 pounds.

  • A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of professional level experience for each year of the required education.
