About The Position

The Junior Custodian position is a multi-faceted role within the SEIU Union, requiring excellent organizational and communication skills to provide excellent service and support. The individual will be responsible for interacting with the principal, faculty, staff, and the general public, performing routine manual labor related to cleaning and building maintenance, and maintaining the school grounds. This is a 52-week position with set hours.

Requirements

Excellent organizational and communication skills.
Ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs.
Must be available during snowstorms for snow removal.
Exhibit considerable knowledge of hand and power tools, materials, and other equipment used in custodial and maintenance trades.
Punctual and outstanding attendance practices.

Nice To Haves

Experience with climbing ladders, scaffolding, and extended aerial platforms.
Working knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Experience with boilers, HVAC units, plumbing, and electrical systems.

Responsibilities

Interacting with the principal, faculty, staff, and the general public.
Performing routine manual labor associated with cleaning, building maintenance, and maintenance of grounds.
Washing, waxing, stripping, and refinishing floors.
Cleaning windows, doors, furniture, desks, walls, and fixtures.
Ensuring routine cleanliness, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting for all building needs during the shift.
Maintaining the cleanliness and stocking of bathrooms throughout the school.
Daily cleaning of the cafeteria.
Operating and maintaining various types of grounds equipment such as lawn mowers, weed whackers, snow blowers, trimmers, and shears.
Shoveling, snow blowing, and sanding walkways, steps, and driveways around the building.
Inspecting the interior and exterior of the building daily and advising on the need for repairs and maintenance.
Performing painting as assigned.
Aiding in the operation and maintenance of building systems such as boilers, HVAC units, plumbing, and electrical.
Performing other duties as assigned by the senior custodian or the supervisor of building and grounds.
Maintaining punctual attendance practices.
