THIS IS A HYBRID POSITION BASED IN OUR MELVILLE, NY OFFICE. Position Summary: The Junior Controller is accountable for supporting the accuracy, timeliness, and discipline of CloudFirst's accounting close and financial reporting processes. This role will serve as a hands-on owner of key monthly close activities, strengthen accounting controls and documentation, and provide oversight of recurring-revenue contract accounting and related MRR data. The position adds experienced accounting capacity to the Finance team while improving the scalability, consistency, and resilience of the close and reporting environment.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field required; CPA or progress toward CPA is a strong plus but not required.
Approximately 4-7 years of progressive accounting experience, including meaningful ownership of monthly close and balance sheet reconciliations.
Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and practical experience with revenue, accruals, deferred revenue, and financial statement preparation.
Experience in a recurring-revenue, technology, managed services, hosting, SaaS, or similar contract-based business environment strongly preferred.
Experience supporting external audits and working in an environment with multiple entities, systems, or acquired businesses is preferred.
Strong accounting fundamentals with the ability to independently work through close issues and determine appropriate accounting treatment.
High attention to detail with strong organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills.
Demonstrated ownership mentality and ability to drive assigned close and reporting responsibilities through completion.
Ability to review customer contracts and translate commercial terms into appropriate accounting and recurring-revenue treatment.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to investigate reconciliations, variances, and data inconsistencies.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfort working across accounting, billing, CRM, and reporting systems.
Process-oriented mindset with an interest in building repeatable workflows, documentation, controls, and automation.
Ability to work effectively across Finance, Billing, Sales Operations, and other teams in a collaborative environment.
Clear written and verbal communication skills and the judgment to escalate issues appropriately.
Resilience and adaptability in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment with evolving processes and priorities.

Nice To Haves

CPA or progress toward CPA is a strong plus but not required.

Responsibilities

Own and coordinate key components of the monthly close process, ensuring assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts are completed accurately and on schedule.
Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and other recurring close activities.
Support the Controller in establishing a disciplined close calendar, clear ownership, review standards, and timely handoff of finalized financial results to FP&A and management.
Review recurring-revenue customer contracts and billing arrangements to support accurate accounting, revenue recognition, deferred revenue, and monthly recurring revenue (MRR) reporting.
Maintain and improve contract-level accounting support and ensure relevant contract intelligence is reflected consistently across accounting records and recurring-revenue reporting.
Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies, including historical balance sheet items and close-related issues, and support remediation of audit adjustments and control gaps.
Support monthly financial statement preparation, lender reporting, management reporting, and other recurring financial deliverables.
Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, reconciliations, workpapers, and process documentation to improve consistency and reduce key-person dependency.
Partner with FP&A, Billing, Sales Operations, and other functional teams to resolve data or process issues affecting the close, revenue, MRR, and financial reporting.
Identify opportunities to standardize and automate accounting workflows, reduce manual effort, and strengthen the scalability and control environment of the Finance organization.
Provide hands-on support across the accounting function as needed in a fast-paced environment undergoing process and systems improvement.
