About The Position

The Junior Component Engineer supports component selection, alternate sourcing, lifecycle management, and supply chain risk mitigation for new and existing products. Working with Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Quality, this role helps ensure component availability, technical compliance, and production continuity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Understanding of semiconductor fundamentals (diodes, BJTs, FETs, IC operation basics).
  • Ability to read schematics and interpret semiconductor datasheets.
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and cross-functional communication skills.
  • 1-3 years of experience in electronics manufacturing, component engineering, sourcing, or quality.
  • Understanding of electronic components, including semiconductors, passives, connectors, and power devices.
  • Ability to read datasheets, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data management tools.
  • Familiarity with databases, SharePoint, PLM/ERP systems, or similar platforms.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SiliconExpert, Octopart, Z2Data, IHS Markit, or similar lifecycle management tools.
  • Exposure to BOM management, ECO processes, and product lifecycle management systems.
  • Familiarity with SMT assembly, PCB/PCA manufacturing, and contract manufacturing environments.
  • Hands-on experience with electronic test equipment.
  • Knowledge of component qualification, obsolescence management, and supply chain risk mitigation.
  • Familiarity with PLM/ERP systems.

Responsibilities

  • Research, evaluate, and qualify alternate components to support product continuity and cost optimization.
  • Assess datasheets, specifications, and form-fit-function compatibility.
  • Monitor component lifecycle status, supply risks, PCNs, EOLs, and lead times.
  • Support alternate sourcing, second-source qualification, and last-time-buy activities.
  • Maintain component data, AML/AVL records, compliance documentation, and approved alternates within PLM/ERP systems.
  • Generate lifecycle, obsolescence, and supply risk reports.
  • Partner with Engineering, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Quality to implement component changes and resolve issues.
  • Support ECOs, document control, and compliance with applicable regulatory and customer requirements.
