We are looking for a Junior Cloud Operations Engineer who is eager to build a career in cloud technology and help support the day-to-day operation of our cloud environments. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent college graduate or an early-career technology professional with 1–3 years of experience who wants hands-on exposure to cloud infrastructure, deployments, monitoring, automation, incident response, and modern DevOps/CloudOps practices. You will work closely with experienced Cloud Operations Engineers, Cloud Engineers, developers, and other technical teams to help ensure our cloud platforms remain secure, reliable, available, and well monitored. You do not need to be an expert in every technology we use. We are looking for someone with strong technical fundamentals, curiosity, problem-solving skills, and a willingness to learn.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required. Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • 0–3 years of professional experience in Information Technology, Cloud Operations, DevOps, Systems Administration, Software Engineering, Technical Support, or a related field.
  • Recent college graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent relevant technical experience.
  • Basic understanding of cloud computing concepts and a strong interest in developing hands-on AWS experience.
  • Familiarity with at least one operating system environment, preferably Linux.
  • Basic understanding of concepts such as: Cloud infrastructure, Servers and serverless technologies, Networking, Monitoring and alerting, Application deployments, Source control, Security fundamentals
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with an eagerness to learn how systems work.
  • Ability to follow documented procedures and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with technical and non-technical team members.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new technologies in a fast-moving cloud environment.
  • Flexibility to occasionally work outside normal business hours for scheduled deployments, maintenance activities, or critical production issues.

Nice To Haves

  • Internship, co-op, academic, or professional experience working with AWS or another major cloud platform.
  • Exposure to AWS services such as EC2, S3, IAM, RDS, Lambda, CloudWatch, VPC, ECS, or EKS.
  • Familiarity with Linux administration and basic command-line troubleshooting.
  • Exposure to Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
  • Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes concepts.
  • Experience with or exposure to Git and GitHub.
  • Basic scripting or programming experience using languages such as Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar technologies.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and observability platforms such as Datadog, Sentry, or CloudWatch.
  • Understanding of CI/CD concepts and software deployment processes.
  • Exposure to ticketing and collaboration tools such as Jira.
  • AWS certification such as AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, or AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer – Associate, or interest in pursuing an AWS certification.
  • Experience gained through college coursework, internships, labs, bootcamps, certifications, open-source contributions, or personal cloud projects is welcome.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the day-to-day operation, monitoring, and support of AWS cloud environments.
  • Monitor cloud infrastructure, applications, alerts, dashboards, and system health to help identify potential issues before they impact customers.
  • Assist with application and code deployments, hotfixes, releases, and routine maintenance activities under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Respond to cloud infrastructure alerts, support tickets, and service requests, performing initial troubleshooting and escalating complex issues when appropriate.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to support production cloud environments during nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Assist with after-hours deployments, maintenance activities, monitoring, and incident response under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Respond to production alerts and perform initial troubleshooting and triage, escalating complex or critical issues according to established procedures.
  • Help ensure timely communication, documentation, and handoff of incidents occurring during nightly and weekend support coverage.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers and other technical teams during after-hours incidents to help maintain system availability, reliability, and operational continuity.
  • Participate in production incident response, helping gather information, troubleshoot problems, document findings, and communicate status to the appropriate teams.
  • Support routine cloud infrastructure activities such as provisioning, configuration, scaling, patching, upgrades, and maintenance.
  • Assist with monitoring and observability tools such as Datadog, Sentry, AWS CloudWatch, or similar platforms.
  • Help maintain and improve operational documentation, procedures, troubleshooting guides, and runbooks.
  • Work with Cloud Engineering and Development teams to improve the reliability, repeatability, and automation of deployments and operational processes.
  • Gain hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation technologies such as Terraform, GitHub Actions, or similar tools.
  • Assist with containerized and cloud-native environments using technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes/Amazon EKS.
  • Follow established security policies, cloud security best practices, and operational procedures.
  • Participate in troubleshooting Linux-based systems, cloud services, networking, applications, and infrastructure issues.
  • Learn from senior engineers while progressively taking ownership of cloud operational tasks and responsibilities.
  • Participate in team discussions, technical reviews, incident reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Stay curious and continuously learn new cloud technologies, tools, and operational practices.
