The compensation range for this job is: $56,305.00 - $70,981.00 for Jr. Buyer Buyer: $66,517 - $87,523 POSITION SUMMARY Solicits quotations, negotiates, coordinates and evaluates purchase and contractual agreements for assigned commodities and services in varying degrees of complexity (dollar value, number of systems or components involved, impact to Company operations or product lines, etc.). Level of responsibility in this position will directly correlate to the degree of intricacy, including legal requirements, of proposals, purchase orders, or contracts. Contributes directly to achievement of Company objectives. At the Jr. Buyer level, the incumbent will have moderate supervision, with the expectation that the employee carries out routine responsibilities with some direction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field. Equivalent education, experience, and training may be substituted for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • One (1) to two (2) years of experience in a business operations environment. Equivalent education and training may be substituted for experience.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of purchasing software applications.
  • Demonstrated proficiency working with the Microsoft Office suite, to include Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong communication/interpersonal skills with emphasis on decision-making, conflict management, and team building and teamwork.
  • Ability to develop work plans, work effectively as a member of a team, report on status of projects, and represent the team in meetings and/or with the client, and be able to coordinate issues identification and resolution between clients and the development team.
  • Ability to plan, organize, measure and coordinate multiple tasks to deliver the budget for product line, revenue and profit.
  • Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions.
  • Ability to actively attend to, convey, and understand the comments and questions of others.
  • Ability to use thinking and reasoning to solve a problem.
  • Ability to grasp and understand business concepts and issues.

Nice To Haves

  • One year of purchasing experience.
  • Education or training in contract negotiation, contract and/or technical writing, technical aspects of telecommunications industry.
  • Accredited Purchasing Professional (APP) or equivalent certification.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for issuing purchase orders and assist with negotiation of new procurements or changes to existing purchase orders with suppliers to ensure purchase orders accurately reflect the latest requirements and terms and conditions in compliance with Company-supplier agreements and with all governing regulations. (35%)
  • Must have a working knowledge of Systems, Applications, Reporting and Products (SAP) in Data Processing and inventory management software. (20%)
  • Assist Sr Buyer with document editing and organization as needed for larger procurements. (15%)
  • Coordinate hotels, travel, and rental cars and provides new sources for catering and locations for Finance special events. (10%)
  • Assists in the Buyer Savings report. (10%)
  • Assists in strategic planning for Stock usage in the upcoming seasons. (10%)
  • Issue purchase orders and negotiate new procurements or changes to existing purchase orders with suppliers to ensure purchase orders accurately reflect the latest requirements and terms and conditions in compliance with Company-supplier agreements and with all governing regulations. (40%)
  • Coordinate materials to Alaska Communications locations and arrange coordination of cost effective and timely goods transportation to include road, air, rail and sea. (20%)
  • Request for Proposal (RFP) Management to include walkthrough with potential bidders. (10%)
  • Contributes to Buyer Savings report. (10%)
  • Provides new sources for Materials and Contractors. (10%)
  • Plan for strategic stock usage for the upcoming seasons. (10%)
  • Other duties as assigned.
