We have an exciting opportunity for a Junior Automation & Controls Specialist to join our Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering team in Halifax, NS. Requirements

  • 0–5 years of experience in automation and controls.
  • Registered with, or eligible and willing to register with the designated professional association of your province.
  • Working knowledge of PLC, HMI, and SCADA programming (including exposure to Allen Bradley, Siemens, Trihedral VTScada, and/or Schneider Electric platforms).
  • Exposure to troubleshooting and commissioning activities (e.g., I/O setup, VFD configuration, and control system integration) with support and guidance from senior staff.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profinet) and basic network setup concepts (e.g., UHF radio, fiber optic, cellular).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or interest in cybersecurity and water & wastewater control systems would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development, programming, and commissioning of PLC, HMI, and SCADA applications for industrial control systems across multiple industries, including water & wastewater, power, and oil & gas.
  • Support on-site troubleshooting, commissioning, and startup under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Work with experienced staff to support the selection of control system hardware and software and system architectures.
  • Assist with control system network architecture development using industry-standard communication protocols.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams, contractors, and clients to support the delivery of automation solutions.
