About The Position

Glen Echo Group seeks a Junior Associate to join our fast-growing, DC-based team. As one of the leading storytellers for the internet-enabled world, this role will combine passion, industry and policy knowledge and creative communications expertise to tell the stories of innovation and how technology can move the world forward as a force for good. This is an exciting opportunity to join our public affairs team and gain experience working with the leading brands and innovators of the new economy. We're looking for a collaborative team member with a strong interest in supporting client service and a desire to learn how to execute integrated communications campaigns. This role is based in our Washington, D.C. office. The Glen Echo Group Public Affairs team is in the office 2-3 days per week.

Requirements

  • Internship or 1 year of other relevant professional experience in strategic communications from working in politics, government, or advocacy, or with a PR agency, media outlet or in-house communications team.
  • A background and strong interest in public policy issues, particularly as they relate to the internet and technology.
  • Excellent writing skills as well as a solid understanding of and experience working with digital platforms and tools.
  • The ability to take initiative and work independently in a highly collaborative environment.
  • A “team-first” approach with an ability to contribute to client teams and be seen as a trusted contributor.
  • The ability to function at a high level on tight deadlines and with changing priorities and serve as a day-to-day resource.
  • Attention to detail, enthusiasm, creativity and desire to work hard and contribute to a great team.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and execution of advocacy campaigns and assist with client communication.
  • Develop a foundational understanding of the policy landscape and client industries.
  • Build introductory relationships with media contacts in national, political, technology and trade outlets across various platforms (print, broadcast, online).
  • Assist in drafting client communications materials such as press releases, fact sheets and web content.
  • Monitor Congressional hearings and other advocacy events and provide comprehensive analysis for clients.
  • Learn to use industry-standard tools for client service, including data and analytics, social media monitoring and industry research.
  • Help implement processes for tracking and basic analysis of media coverage (print, broadcast and online).
  • Support the team and help to plan client events.
  • Be a leader and brand ambassador inside and outside Glen Echo Group.
