About The Position

WSP is seeking an Intermediate Professional, Junior Architect to join their Transportation team in Los Angeles, CA. This role provides support to architects, engineers, and project managers for various stages of building design and construction, including due diligence, planning, concept development, restoration, alteration, extension, and implementation. The position involves assisting with visualizing projects, preparing drawings, specifications, budgets, and construction documents, and developing design proposals. The Junior Architect will generate accurate drawings, renderings, and documentation, ensuring adherence to industry standards for design, safety, structural integrity, and occupancy.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, or closely related discipline (or equivalent experience).
• 1 to 3 years of relevant post-education experience in the learned discipline.
• Knowledge of architectural principles, practices, process, and their application to project work-related issues.
• Familiarity with building planning, drawing standards, design, and construction documentation, including restorative and new design.
• Competent rendering, visualization, and technical drawing skills.
• Familiarity with processes and concepts for sustainability, green building design, and reducing/eliminating hazardous substances/greenhouse gas.
• Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective and professional interaction with technical and non-technical audiences.
• Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, technology, math principles, graphics, spreadsheets, and tools.
• Experience with discipline-specific design software (i.e., REVIT, AutoCAD, Adobe, Bluebeam, Creative Suite).
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
• Have started or intend to start the process of Architecture licensure.
• Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
• Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Nice To Haves

• Prior Architecture work experience.
• A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
• Familiarity with MicroStation.
• Familiar with relevant building and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
• Familiar with Photoshop, Lumion, Twinmotion, and/or Enscape.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the preparation of detailed drawings showing both the external and internal appearance and structure of building projects.
• Collect, compile, and analyze data from various sources (work site, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, environmental data, historical use) for project development, design, and construction.
• Perform basic professional architectural work including research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, building, infrastructure, and transportation channels to ensure conformance with applicable rules, standards, and permits.
• Assist with the input of building technologies, concepts, modeling techniques, design requirements, and operating strategies to ensure occupant safety and functionality, and incorporate future-ready solutions.
• Assist with preparing complete and accurate visualizations using software, technical drawings, and 2D/3D illustrations.
• Offer input and analysis to technical staff and project managers regarding design concepts, construction, risk mitigation, and improvement activities.
• Work with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
• Complete training on assigned tasks.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
