Junior Accountant
About The Position
Advanced Behavioral Health, Inc. is seeking a Junior Accountant to join its Finance team at the corporate office in Frederick, Maryland. The role focuses on accounts payable, payroll support, bank and account reconciliations, and maintaining accurate and timely general ledger and financial records. The Junior Accountant performs general accounting work with an emphasis on analysis, accuracy, and compliance with US GAAP. The position supports accounts receivable and revenue processing, collections, payroll, grant billing and reporting, financial reporting, auditing, and finance policies and procedures. The role also works closely with the CEO, payroll and HR teams, employees, vendors, and agencies. Strict confidentiality is required. Advanced Behavioral Health is a family-centered mental health program offering psychiatry, off-site counseling, on-site therapy, and therapeutic mentoring.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related Business field.
- At least two years of experience in accounting and payroll.
- Advanced experience with QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge of basic office management and organization principles and practices.
- Understanding of HIPAA privacy laws.

Responsibilities
- Perform general accounting tasks with attention to analysis, accuracy, and compliance with US GAAP.
- Manage revenue and accounts receivable processing and tracking, and prepare reports from Dr Cloud.
- Monitor accounts receivable aging and pursue collections to keep balances from exceeding 30 days past due.
- Process expense reimbursements, invoices, vendor payments, ACH transfers, credit card transactions, and automatic bank transactions.
- Perform monthly bank and account reconciliations, maintain fixed-asset records and inventory, analyze accounts, and assist with auditing monthly transactions.
- Prepare journal and reconciling entries and balance subsidiary accounts weekly or monthly.
- Prepare weekly deposit reports for the cash forecast report.
- Prepare accurate monthly and year-end financial calculations.
- Provide the CEO with timely financial data and requested reports, support initiatives requiring accounting input, and provide monthly revenue statements.
- Process biweekly labor reports and support payroll processing; prepare payroll system reports, review and post payroll transactions, and make necessary adjustments.
- Collaborate with payroll and HR to verify the pre-payroll register and ensure changes are processed before payroll submission.
- Support grants through invoicing, budgeting, forecasting, payroll accuracy, and participation in grant meetings; track and audit grant reporting and billing.
- Pull and post revenue and monitor billing for issues.
- Reconcile employee benefit invoices and identify discrepancies.
- Provide customer service to employees, management, outside vendors, and agencies.
- Update the monthly activity checklist to reflect new or changed procedures.
- Assist with documenting accounting and finance policies and procedures.
- Assist in preparing detailed schedules for the annual financial statement and retirement plan audits.
- Assist with special projects as necessary.
