About The Position

The Junior Accountant provides various types of financial support to York Realty and its partners. This individual works collaboratively with other team members and serves as a company representative when engaging with clients and other external stakeholders. Due to the nature of this role, the Junior Accountant must possess a high level of adaptability as they provide services to different entities and departments within our Group (e.g., Construction, Property Management, Precast, etc.).

Requirements

• Education with a diploma or degree majoring in accounting
• An analytical mind and enjoy working with numbers
• Developed interpersonal skills: Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships with multiple groups
• Ability to remain objective and maintain a factual perspective when dealing with questions and inquiries
• Strong organizational and time management skills: Sense of urgency and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously capable of handling pressure and challenges in a dynamic business environment
• Strong analytical skills: Critical thinking, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy with attention to detail
• Strong communication skills: Ability to deliver a message to a large group, ability to tailor communication to end users (management vs. other accountants) and medium (email vs. presentation)

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience in a similar role preferred
• Previous experience working in construction and/or property management preferred
• Experience using Yardi preferred

Responsibilities

• Maintain a strong level of detail over day-to-day responsibilities
• Manage bank transactions and bank reconciliations for 20+ bank accounts, 20+ legal entities and various departments, such as construction and development
• Reconcile and company credit cards and various Balance sheet GLs
• Record and reconcile property taxes, insurance, and prepaid utilities monthly for 100+ properties
• Prepare monthly balance sheet GL reconciliations and assist with year-end data preparation and documentation
• Update and maintain accounting databases as needed
• Assist entities and departments with day-to-day accounting and ad hoc reconciliations as required
• Prepare monthly accruals for York Realty, which includes review of unposted payables, POs and basic understanding of operational accruals at property level
• Preparation and management of invoicing for monthly maintenance fees and property management fees for 100+ buildings
• Support with GST data preparations
• Post mortgage related entries across the portfolio
• Other ad hoc tasks as assigned by Accounting Manager
