Requirements

  • Diploma or degree in Business, Forestry, Wood Products Technology, Sales/Marketing, or a related field (equivalent experience considered).
  • 1–3 years of sales, customer service, or account management experience; experience in lumber, forestry, building materials, or manufacturing is an asset.
  • Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Solid understanding of, or willingness to quickly learn, lumber grading, products, and industry terminology.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook) and CRM/ERP systems.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple accounts and priorities.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel between mill sites and to customer locations.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with production, logistics, and senior sales teams.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development and execution of sales strategies for softwood lumber and related forest products.
  • Negotiate and maintain annual contracts with key customers that maximize contribution margins.
  • Engage in regular communication with current and potential customers through email, phone calls, and in-person visits.
  • Develop and maintain the customer base and establish high-level relationships with their accounts, in accordance with group guidelines.
  • Oversee customer service by coordinating with logistics and supply teams to ensure customers’ demands are being successfully met.
  • Resolve complaints in a timely manner to minimize costs.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and applicable trade regulations.
  • Assist in identifying and pursuing new business opportunities and markets.
  • Coordinate with mill operations to align sales commitments with production capacity and inventory.
  • Track sales performance metrics and prepare regular reporting for senior management.
  • Attend industry trade shows, customer visits, and mill tours as required.
  • Support contract negotiations and renewals under the guidance of senior sales staff.
  • Assist in the planning and preparation of marketing and promotional material.
  • Assist in improvement of customer service and other internal procedures.
  • Assist in the forecasting of short-term and medium-term sales opportunities.
  • Identify customer needs and translate them into value-added propositions, which increase sales.
  • Prepare and distribute sales administrative reports in a timely manner to ensure robust cross-departmental communication.
  • Operate within sales expense guidelines.
  • Build positive and productive relations within the departments and with all customers, both current and prospective.
  • Fosters collaboration and trust across department lines.
  • Adapt quickly to constantly changing circumstances in a highly dynamic role.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
