About The Position

This role involves operating a Jumbo drill for underground development and production work, including drilling, ground control, and other mining tasks. The Jumbo Leader is responsible for ensuring safe work practices, adhering to company policies, and leading a crew to achieve departmental and company goals. This position requires strong communication, planning, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to assess ground conditions and implement appropriate control measures.

Requirements

  • Perform pre-operational and post-operational checks
  • Read and accurately follow mine instruction plan with skill and precision ensuring holes are drilled to design line, gradient and profile
  • Accurately drill a number of drive drill patterns using a mechanised hydraulic or electric Jumbo drill to suit conditions of the drive
  • Assess ground conditions at the face and implement ground control according to site requirements
  • Carry out underground development and production work, stripping, ground support and other mining tasks
  • Ensure that all tools are serviceable and safe.
  • Communicate with surveyors, geologists, and engineers to optimise drill patterns and metres.
  • Lead a crew of workers
  • Work collaboratively with others to achieve organizational goals – both within own department and site wide.
  • Leverage the talent and knowledge within the team to resolve problems
  • Prioritise and complete tasks accurately as to specifications as assigned by direct supervisor within required timeframes.
  • Proactively identify and address hazards before they arise as issues.
  • Be punctual to work and all required site meetings.

Nice To Haves

  • Supervise and trains operator, and works with trades and non-trades persons carrying out other tasks in and around the underground mine
  • Deputise for the UG Shift Supervisor in their absence

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe work systems/procedures including inspections are always practiced and adhered to.
  • Maintain exemplary standard of housekeeping, safe work, incident/accident reporting & active involvement in safety initiatives.
  • Abide by and proactively comply with Company policies, procedures, guidelines, and systems, as well as all relevant legislation.
  • Understand and familiarize oneself with site Emergency evacuation procedures.

  • Lead by example and actively participate to achieve department and company goals and objectives.
  • Initiate and provide input into company directives in collaboration with the Site Management team.
  • Support and follow all lawful instructions/directives from direct supervisor.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and take responsibility for own conduct and behaviour in the workplace.
  • Ensure good, clear lines of communication between all stakeholders.
