About The Position

The Jr. Machinery Mechanic is responsible for assisting in the maintenance and repair of industrial machinery under close supervision. This entry-level role supports senior mechanics in diagnosing issues, performing basic repairs, and ensuring equipment is safe and operational. This job profile is intended for entry-level support staff who follow specific instructions and procedures, with supervision provided for non-routine situations. Tasks can be carried out after basic training or demonstration.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in instrumentation, electrical, or mechanical discipline preferred.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including engines and rotating equipment.
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems (AC/DC), sensors, and control circuits.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools, multimeters, and calibration equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with natural gas engines and compressor packages.
  • Familiarity with control systems (PLC/SCADA) and engine management systems.
  • OEM training or certifications related to ignition or instrumentation systems.
  • Knowledge of hazardous area classifications and safe work practices.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain ignition systems including control panels, coils, pickups, and wiring harnesses.
  • Install, calibrate, and troubleshoot instrumentation such as pressure, temperature, and speed sensors.
  • Perform functional testing and system validation to ensure proper engine performance and compliance with specifications.
  • Interpret wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and technical manuals to support troubleshooting and installation activities.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and inspections on engines, compressors, and related equipment.
  • Assist with engine startups, shutdowns, and commissioning activities.
  • Identify root causes of system failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate service records, calibration reports, and documentation.
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards, company policies, and industry regulations.
  • Collaborate with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to optimize equipment reliability.
