Jr. Electrical Engineer

INFICON•East Syracuse, NY

About The Position

INFICON is hiring an early-career Electrical Engineer to contribute to the design and development of precision electronics for its sensor and instrumentation products. The role spans the electronics development cycle, from breadboard prototypes through production and field support, and involves working with hardware, firmware, and AI-enabled product capabilities. The Electrical Engineering team in Syracuse, New York, works with analog and digital circuits, embedded systems, RF electronics, power supplies, PCB layout, component selection, and prototype testing. The engineer will work alongside experienced colleagues and take on increasing responsibility as their skills grow, with potential development toward a senior or lead technical role. The position involves supporting electronic subsystem design, building and validating prototypes, sustaining existing products, and documenting engineering work. The engineer will collaborate across hardware, software, and other disciplines in a cross-functional Agile environment, using early prototypes and customer feedback to test assumptions and refine designs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Solid foundation in analog and digital circuit design.
  • Hands-on laboratory skills, such as using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and power supplies.
  • Familiarity with schematic capture and PCB layout tools, such as Cadence OrCAD or similar.
  • Experience with microcontrollers and embedded systems.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to MCUs, DSPs, or FPGAs, power management, or EMI/EMC compliance.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban, and tools such as Jira.
  • Curiosity about collaborating with physicists, chemists, materials scientists, software engineers, and mechanical engineers to develop products.

Responsibilities

  • Support electronic subsystem design from schematic capture through PCB layout and production launch, under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Build, test, and debug breadboards and prototypes, and perform validation measurements in the laboratory.
  • Support sustaining engineering, including troubleshooting field issues, managing component obsolescence, and pursuing cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Write and maintain design documentation, test plans, and test reports.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software engineers to integrate circuits into larger system architectures.
  • Participate in sprints as part of a cross-functional Agile team to iterate on prototypes.
  • Use a lean, hypothesis-driven approach by building early prototypes, getting them into customers' hands, validating assumptions, and iterating.
  • Explore emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools, and share findings with the team.

Benefits

  • Profit-sharing bonus with a target of 10%.
  • 401(k) match up to 8%, subject to a vesting schedule.
  • Flexible work hours.
