About The Position

This position is responsible for performing duties required in the operation, maintenance, construction and repair of transmission and distribution systems. The role involves constructing and maintaining overhead and underground electric lines and equipment, inspecting existing primary and secondary power lines and substation equipment, and correcting or reporting problems and observed hazards. The Journeyworker will also maintain and operate vehicles and equipment, investigate trouble on lines, and locate the cause of power outages. They will perform rubber glove work on energized lines from an aerial device and work on de-energized or grounded lines or equipment. Additionally, the position requires participation in scheduled training, assisting in the training of others, and demonstrating diligence in learning and adhering to safety regulations. The role also includes collecting delinquent accounts and being available for call-out duty and various shifts. The Journeyworker is responsible for maintaining construction standards, leading or monitoring job briefings, approving purchasing invoices and work orders with a focus on efficiency and cost controls, and maintaining a safe and reliable system for members and the general public. They will manage construction project completion, participate in emergency restoration, update the UC mapping system, and participate in the process for damage claims. Customer service aspects include resolving customer complaints and answering questions. Leadership responsibilities involve providing guidance to employees, discussing job performance issues, teaching job duties and company policies, instructing and supervising subordinates in the absence of the Construction/Service Supervisor, interpreting and communicating work procedures, establishing work priorities, and coordinating activities with other departments. The role also requires conducting and participating in safety meetings, operating PEC vehicles, maintaining driver eligibility, and maintaining the security of confidential information. Staying abreast of advances in technology and demonstrating regular and prompt attendance are also key aspects of the position. The supervisory and/or leadership responsibilities encompass a range of activities including training, effectively communicating organizational policies, and ensuring employees understand their responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Successful completion of DOL program requirements for Journeyworker
  • Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Motor Vehicle Report that comply with PEC policy
  • Knowledge of business and management principles including strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques and budgeting
  • Knowledge of using computer systems, which may include setting up and using hardware and software programs, entering data or processing information
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service
  • Knowledge of principles of electricity, safety practices and codes
  • Knowledge of electric power industry construction standards
  • Knowledge of voltage testing equipment
  • Skilled in monitoring and managing performance
  • Skilled in establishing and communicating performance expectations and metrics
  • Skilled in time management

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate mastery and continue duties of Apprentice 1, 2, 3 and 4
  • Construct and maintain overhead and underground electric lines and equipment
  • Inspect existing primary and secondary power lines and substation equipment
  • Correct and/or report problems and observed hazards
  • Maintain and operate vehicles and equipment

  • Maintain and service, including cleaning and repairing, all tools and equipment
