About The Position
This is a challenging role for experienced Sheet Metal Journeypersons in the Wood Buffalo Region of Northern Alberta. The company, Gateway Mechanical, is seeking individuals who are not looking for a safe, easy, clock-in/clock-out job, but rather want to make a mark on complex projects in demanding conditions. This is an opportunity to join one of Western Canada's largest and fastest-growing mechanical companies, working with skilled tradespeople on significant projects. The role involves building high-performing duct systems, full HVAC installations, reading and executing prints accurately, adapting to changing job requirements, working across various sites in the Wood Buffalo region, collaborating with experienced tradespeople, and prioritizing safety through FLHAs and inspections. The company emphasizes that this role is for serious tradespeople looking to 'level up' and is not for those seeking average or predictable work.
Requirements
- Journeyperson Sheet Metal qualification
- Proven craft knowledge and ability to apply it on site
- Problem-solving skills
- Ability to lead without ego but with high standards
- Resilience for Northern work, both mentally and physically
- Respect for the crew, timeline, and project outcome
- Possession of a Class 5 driver's license with a clean abstract
- A strong safety mindset
Responsibilities
- Building duct systems that perform in demanding industrial and commercial environments
- Full HVAC installs, including hangers, fire dampers, retrofits, and new builds
- Reading prints and executing work accurately without supervision
- Adapting quickly to changes in project scope or requirements
- Traveling between sites across the Wood Buffalo region
- Working collaboratively with other skilled tradespeople
- Owning safety by conducting FLHAs, performing inspections, and adhering to safety protocols even when unobserved
- Leading by example, setting the tone, and delivering results as a Journeyperson
