About The Position

Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) with Michels Canada in Nisku, you’ll take a lead role in keeping our mobile heavy equipment and fleet vehicles running safely and reliably. You’ll guide day-to-day shop work—repair, overhaul, and preventative maintenance—while tackling complex jobs in a fast-paced environment. Just as important, you’ll help foster a collaborative, supportive shop culture where the team can do their best work. This position is based in Nisku, AB.

Requirements

  • Journeyperson Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) certification, with truck and trailer experience; Red Seal is preferred.
  • 5+ years’ experience performing maintenance and repairs on equipment ranging from heavy trucks, trailers, yellow iron and off-road construction equipment (e.g., excavators, skid steers, front-end loaders, HDD rigs).
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Able to move and operate equipment.
  • Have a strong awareness and attitude towards workplace health and safety.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • Valid driver’s license for the type(s) of vehicles driven, with an acceptable driving record as determined by the Michels Review Team.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and promoting a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and following all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identifying and communicating workplace hazards and correcting or seeking assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
  • Keeping equipment available and job-ready by performing diagnostics and preventative maintenance including but not limited to engine tune-ups, oil change, tire rotation and changes, wheel balancing, and replacing filters.
  • Troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining equipment and fleet vehicles.
  • Assessing issues and recommending the appropriate scope of repair; including improvement opportunities to enhance reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Ensuring that preventative maintenance guidelines are adhered to and maintaining complete and accurate records.
  • Maintaining vehicle and equipment functional condition by repairing engine failures, replacing parts and components, repairing body damage and repairing mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems malfunctions.
  • Diagnosing faults and malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine required repairs.
  • Documenting work performed, parts used and repairs completed by entering accurate information in the Fleet Software system.
  • Completing job-specific reports and paperwork as required.
  • Thinking logically and keeping up with changes in technology.
