About The Position

FSS Technologies is hiring a Journeyman Sprinkler Fitter and Deficiency Repair Technician to install fire sprinkler systems and correct deficiencies identified during inspections and testing at customer sites across Minnesota. This role works with a good degree of independence, applying journeyman-level trade knowledge to complete both new installation work and repair work safely and to code.

Requirements

  • Minimum four years of documented experience installing and/or repairing fire sprinkler systems, or completion of a registered sprinkler fitter apprenticeship.
  • Active Minnesota Journeyman Sprinkler Fitter Certificate issued by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, State Fire Marshal Division, is required, as Minnesota licenses individual sprinkler fitters. Candidates who can obtain this certification before their start date will also be considered.
  • Active Minnesota Backflow Prevention Tester (BT) certification issued by the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry, which requires current ASSE 5110 certification, is required to test the backflow preventers installed on fire protection water supplies. Candidates who can obtain this certification before their start date will also be considered.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Strong working knowledge of NFPA 13 installation standards and NFPA 25 inspection, testing, and maintenance requirements.
  • Ability to troubleshoot fire sprinkler system deficiencies and determine an effective repair solution.
  • Skilled in pipefitting, threading, and related sprinkler installation and repair techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret inspection reports, deficiency lists, and system drawings.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience diagnosing and correcting fire sprinkler system deficiencies is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Install, assemble, and modify commercial fire sprinkler systems in accordance with approved plans and NFPA standards.
  • Diagnose and repair deficiencies identified during fire sprinkler inspections and testing.
  • Measure, cut, thread, and join pipe, fittings, valves, hangers, and sprinkler heads.
  • Read blueprints, shop drawings, and inspection reports to determine the correct repair approach.
  • Test, inspect, and adjust systems to confirm proper operation after installations and repairs.
  • Coordinate with inspectors, customers, and project managers to schedule and complete deficiency repair work.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs performed, parts used, and time on site.
  • Follow all OSHA, NFPA, and company safety requirements.
  • Travel to customer sites throughout Minnesota to complete installations, repairs, and service calls.
  • Communicate clearly with customers about completed repairs and any additional recommendations.
