About The Position

FSS Technologies is hiring a Journeyman Sprinkler Fitter based out of Fargo, ND, to install and maintain commercial fire sprinkler systems on job sites in North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and surrounding states. This role works with a good degree of independence, applying journeyman-level trade knowledge to complete installations safely and to code.

Requirements

  • Minimum four years of documented experience installing fire sprinkler systems, or completion of a registered sprinkler fitter apprenticeship.
  • Current journeyman-level fire sprinkler fitter license or certification required, valid in the state(s) where work will be performed.
  • Active backflow prevention assembly tester certification (commonly based on the ASSE 5110 standard), or the ability to obtain one, is required.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Strong working knowledge of NFPA 13 and related fire sprinkler installation standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and sprinkler shop drawings.
  • Skilled in pipefitting, threading, and related sprinkler installation techniques.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve installation issues independently.
  • Active Minnesota Journeyman Sprinkler Fitter Certificate issued by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, State Fire Marshal Division (or ability to obtain one before assignment to Minnesota job sites) is required, as Minnesota licenses individual sprinkler fitters.
  • Active Minnesota Backflow Prevention Tester (BT) certification issued by the Department of Labor and Industry, which requires current ASSE 5110 certification, is required to test backflow preventers on fire protection water supplies in Minnesota.

Responsibilities

  • Install, assemble, and modify commercial and residential fire sprinkler systems in accordance with approved plans and NFPA standards.
  • Measure, cut, thread, and join pipe, fittings, valves, hangers, and sprinkler heads.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and sprinkler system layouts.
  • Test, inspect, and adjust installed systems to confirm proper operation.
  • Work independently or as part of a crew to complete installations on schedule.
  • Coordinate with foremen, project managers, and other trades on the job site.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and materials in safe working condition.
  • Follow all OSHA, NFPA, and company safety requirements.
  • Complete accurate daily reports and job documentation.
  • Travel to job sites as assigned, which may include work in neighboring states.
