About The Position

VES LLC is seeking a Journeyman Software Engineer to support advanced software development efforts for U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). The selected candidate will develop, integrate, and evaluate software solutions supporting artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, computer vision, edge computing, and modern web applications for mission-critical capabilities operating in Denied, Degraded, Intermittent, and Limited (DDIL) environments. The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to design, develop, test, and deploy software supporting unmanned systems (UxV), AI-enabled mission planning, and emerging operational technologies while collaborating with government stakeholders and commercial technology partners.

Requirements

  • Strong proficiency in Python.
  • Experience with FastAPI, React, and/or Next.js.
  • Experience with Git, Docker, and Linux development environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance (or existing TS).
  • U.S. Citizenship required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting USSOCOM or other Department of Defense organizations.
  • Experience deploying AI applications on edge computing platforms.
  • Familiarity with geospatial data processing.
  • Familiarity with TAK/ATAK plugin development.
  • Experience in Agile software development environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain software solutions supporting USSOCOM mission requirements.
  • Develop and deploy AI/ML and computer vision applications for edge computing platforms operating in DDIL environments.
  • Support mission planning software for unmanned aerial systems utilizing PX4 and ArduPilot platforms.
  • Build and maintain modern web applications using FastAPI backends and React/Next.js front-end frameworks.
  • Develop software integrations utilizing MAVLink and pymavlink for autonomous vehicle communications.
  • Implement natural language workflow solutions using LangChain and LangGraph.
  • Develop and integrate geospatial applications supporting mission planning and situational awareness.
  • Implement messaging and telemetry solutions using MQTT and Cursor-on-Target (CoT) protocols.
  • Evaluate emerging AI technologies and software solutions against operational requirements.
  • Support future development efforts involving Tactical Assault Kit (TAK) plugin development.
  • Document software architecture, testing procedures, and technical implementations.
