This position is for a Journeyman Mechanic at the JM and APP Levels. The role involves inspecting, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing various machinery and equipment, including power transmission, vacuum, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, as well as programmable logic controls. The mechanic will also operate machine tools, fabricate parts, perform routine maintenance, and assemble machinery. A key aspect of the role includes coaching, mentoring, and assisting with the evaluation of apprentices to ensure their successful completion of the apprenticeship program. The position requires the ability to visualize layouts from plans and blueprints, comprehend and troubleshoot mechanical systems, and work effectively as part of a team. The role also involves directing and mentoring apprentices, applying judgment within established guidelines, and referring complex issues to a supervisor. Interactions occur with apprentices, other trades, supervisors, and managers internally, and with clients externally as directed. The role demands strength and stamina to work with heavy equipment, good coordination and manual dexterity, and the potential to work at heights or outdoors. Effective time management, accuracy in work, and strong communication skills are essential, including the ability to safeguard confidential information, follow directions, interpret blueprints, and communicate clearly with colleagues and supervisors. The Journeyman Mechanic is expected to consistently produce error-free work within appropriate timeframes and contribute to departmental goals.
