About The Position

Jagemann's precision tool room is hiring a Journeyman Machinist to operate advanced machining equipment on critical tooling components. You'll work in a temperature-controlled environment using precision measuring equipment to verify dimensional accuracy while managing machining parameters to maintain surface finish specifications.

Requirements

High school diploma plus machining or metalworking training
Mazak programming certification
Partial completion of company-specified Machine Tool Operation curriculum
CAD/CAM and Solutionware training
1–3 years of toolroom and CNC machining experience
Proficiency in CNC setup and operation
Strong knowledge of material machining characteristics
Attention to detail and ability to hold close tolerances
Familiarity with Environmental Health & Safety procedures

Responsibilities

Set up and operate manual and precision grinding machines to process parts per specifications
Plan work sequences and determine cutting parameters (feeds, speeds, depths)
Work to close tolerances using precision measuring instruments
Write and edit CNC programs
Calculate dimensional relationships and input data to machine controllers
Develop custom holding fixtures and soft jaws for non-standard parts
Select appropriate cutting tools and manage tool inventory
Perform routine preventive maintenance on CNC equipment
Sharpen non-insert tools as needed
Machine hardened steels, carbide, and other specialty materials
Adjust speeds, feeds, and tooling based on material characteristics
Mentor CNC operators and apprentices
Provide troubleshooting guidance and occasional multi-machine oversight
Keep work areas clean and organized
Follow all EHS procedures and collaborate with vendors on tooling needs
