About The Position

Xcel Energy is hiring one or more Journeyman Linemen in Arvada, Colorado. The role performs lineman-classification duties involving overhead and underground electric distribution systems. The work may be strenuous and outdoors, at any time of day or night and in varied weather conditions. The position requires safe, proficient pole climbing and responding to emergency callouts after normal work hours and on weekends.

External and non-Xcel Energy journeyman candidates will have their qualifications and knowledge verified through written testing and/or practical skills evaluation. Candidates who advance must also pass the Xcel Energy Journeyman Lineman test, conducted onsite. The application process may include an online assessment, which invited candidates must complete within 72 hours.

The anticipated starting base pay is $67.02 per hour. Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Class A commercial driver's license and valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
• Completion of a qualified apprenticeship program and Journeyman Lineman certification.
• Well-rounded knowledge of distribution primary feeder circuits, transformer loading and connections, and fusing practices.
• Experience with electric meter sets and their connections.
• Knowledge and experience using hot line tools, protective devices, fuses, lightning arresters, disconnect switches, breakers, grounding sets, transformers, and transformer connections.
• Experience operating line construction and maintenance vehicles and equipment, including forklifts, digger-derricks, platform digger units, and wire and rope tensioning units.
• Knowledge and experience troubleshooting electric distribution systems.
• Familiarity with company safety rules and regulations and the hazards of electric distribution field service work.
• Familiarity with rubber gloves, sleeves, line hose, switching procedures, and personal protective equipment in accordance with company and OSHA requirements.
• Physical ability, endurance, and willingness to perform potentially strenuous outdoor work at all times of day and night and in varied weather conditions.
• Ability to work safely and productively, work well with others, and maintain a positive attitude.
• External and non-Xcel Energy journeyman candidates must complete written testing and/or a practical skills evaluation; candidates who advance must pass the onsite Xcel Energy Journeyman Lineman test.
• Candidates invited to complete the online assessment must follow its instructions and complete it within 72 hours.
