Distribution Journeyman Lineman - Rifle, CO
About The Position
Perform the duties of a lineman involving overhead and underground electric distribution systems. The role is located in Rifle, Colorado, and requires living within 40 minutes or 40 miles of the Garfield Operations Center. The work may be strenuous outdoor work at all times of day and night and in various weather conditions. The successful candidate must be able to climb poles safely and proficiently and respond to emergency callouts after normal work hours and on weekends. External and non-Xcel Energy journeyman candidates will have their qualifications and knowledge verified through written testing and/or practical skills evaluation during the application process.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Class A CDL driver’s license, including a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
- Completion of a qualified apprenticeship program and Journeyman Lineman certification.
- Willingness to live within 40 minutes or 40 miles of the Garfield Operations Center.
- Well-rounded knowledge of distribution primary feeder circuits, transformer loading and connections, and fusing practices.
- Knowledge and experience using hot line tools, protective devices, fuses, lightning arresters, disconnect switches, breakers, grounding sets, transformers, and transformer connections.
- Experience operating line construction and maintenance vehicles, including forklifts, digger-derricks, platform digger units, and wire and rope tensioning units.
- Knowledge and experience in electric distribution system troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with company safety rules and regulations and the hazards involved in electric distribution field service work.
- Physical ability, endurance, and willingness to perform strenuous outdoor work at all times of day and night and in various weather conditions.
- Ability to perform safe, proficient, and effective pole-climbing.
- Self-motivation, ability to work well with others, a positive attitude, and commitment to working safely and productively.
