About The Position

The Journeyman Lineman Construction Foreman is responsible for providing efficient direction of the construction and maintenance of all types of conductors, structures, and equipment used in substations and the distribution of electricity. This full-time, non-exempt position reports directly to the Supervisor of Operations/Director of Operations and directs Linemen, Apprentice Linemen, Groundmen, and/or Equipment Operators.

Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent.
Ability to read, write, and perform mathematics.
Three years of experience as a Journeyman Lineman, or two years as a Chief Lineman/first-class lineman or equivalent experience in a related classification.
Knowledgeable of substations and distribution systems and switching procedures.
Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
Ability to communicate effectively with the public and co-workers.
Ability and skill to plan and organize delegated work with a minimum of supervision.
Legible handwriting.
Valid Virginia Commercial Drivers License, Class A or Class B.
Current Department of Transportation, Medical Examiner’s Certificate.
Availability for call outs and willingness to work extra and irregular hours.
Physical ability to perform essential functions, including climbing poles and structures, bending, pulling, digging, lifting, and carrying loads averaging 80 pounds.
Compliance with all General Job Requirements.

Responsibilities

Interpreting prints and completing all types of construction and maintenance assignments on de-energized and energized overhead and underground systems.
Charging and returning all materials, using proper work order procedures.
Making all decisions necessary within the limits of the Coop policies, procedures, and Safe Work Practice Manual (SWPM).
Effectively managing one or more crews and various equipment to complete work as planned.
Enforcing safety rules for the protection of assigned crew and the public, ensuring crew obeys all safety rules and regulations, practices, and Coop rules.
Assuring proper use of traffic warning devices when working on or near highways.
Reporting all accidents to the supervisor.
Performing and observing all “Hot Line” work on lines and voltages of the Cooperative, following prescribed methods and procedures.
Observing crewmembers' performance to ensure sound work procedures and safety practices are used.
Assisting in the development and training of the Apprentice Lineman, including on-the-job observations, quizzing or testing, and filling out evaluation forms.
Ensuring assigned vehicle, equipment, and tools are kept clean and in good working condition, making minor repairs, and reporting needed parts or major repairs to the supervisor.
Completing daily inspections of assigned automotive equipment and required mileage and/or safety reports.
Patrolling lines while traveling throughout the Co-op service area and making repairs as needed.
Reporting conditions that cannot be corrected by the crew.
Staying informed of all operational and construction specification changes to ensure work is completed according to requirements.
Performing necessary clerical work incidental to the job.
Using a two-way radio in accordance with Co-op and FCC regulations.
Performing duties of equal or lesser skill as assigned by the Supervisor of Field Services or assigned supervisor to meet emergencies or other operating needs.
