About The Position

Skillforce is currently hiring Journeyman HVAC Sheet Metal Mechanics for commercial projects in the Nashville and Memphis, TN areas. As a Journeyman HVAC Sheet Metal Mechanic, you will be responsible for the fabrication, installation, and completion of commercial HVAC ductwork and sheet metal systems. The ideal candidate has strong commercial experience, can work independently, and takes pride in producing quality work while maintaining a safe and efficient job site. Candidates must have at least 5 years of commercial sheet metal experience.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of commercial sheet metal experience required.
  • Strong experience with commercial HVAC ductwork installation and sheet metal fabrication.
  • Ability to independently read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, specifications, and layouts.
  • Proficient with sheet metal hand tools and power tools.
  • Experience installing rectangular and spiral ductwork, VAVs, RTUs, diffusers, dampers, and related HVAC components.
  • Must have your own PPE and required hand tools.
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to troubleshoot field conditions and make appropriate adjustments.
  • Dependable attendance and commitment to job-site safety.
  • Ability to work 40–50 hours per week and meet project deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Lay out, fabricate, and install commercial HVAC duct systems and sheet metal components.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, specifications, and layout plans.
  • Measure, cut, shape, join, and assemble sheet metal with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Install commercial ductwork, including rectangular and spiral systems, along with hangers, supports, and accessories.
  • Hang ductwork and install VAVs, RTUs, diffusers, registers, dampers, and flexible components.
  • Seal duct systems and ensure proper alignment, fit, and quality.
  • Identify and resolve installation issues in the field.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and sheet metal equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Coordinate with other trades and crew members to keep projects on schedule.
  • Work independently while maintaining project specifications and quality standards.
  • Assist with training and providing direction to less-experienced sheet metal mechanics and apprentices when needed.
  • Follow OSHA safety standards, company safety procedures, and job-site requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
