About The Position

New West Truck Centres is a heavy truck dealership with locations across Southern Alberta and British Columbia. We represent Freightliner and Western Star trucks and are committed to keeping our customers moving. We are looking for a Journeyman Heavy Duty Technician to join our Red Deer Service team. This role is best suited for a strong diagnostic technician who is confident troubleshooting electrical systems, engines, aftertreatment, and heavy truck drivability concerns. Requirements

  • Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician certification required, Red Seal preferred
  • Valid CVIP licence required
  • Experience with Detroit and Cummins diagnostic software required
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with electrical systems, engines, and aftertreatment

  • Valid Class 1 or Class 3 driver’s licence is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Perform hands-on diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on heavy duty trucks and equipment
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems, engine concerns, aftertreatment faults, and related components
  • Complete CVIP inspections in line with regulatory requirements
  • Test vehicles to ensure they meet safety standards and manufacturer specifications
  • Coordinate with Parts Technicians to ensure required components are available or ordered
  • Review detailed repair concerns provided by Service Advisors
  • Diagnose complex engine, transmission, hydraulic, electrical, electronic, and aftertreatment systems using advanced diagnostic tools
  • Use Detroit and Cummins diagnostic software to interpret fault codes, document findings, and support accurate repairs
  • Apply Freightliner product knowledge to diagnose issues efficiently and recommend the right repair path
  • Accurately track time and document all repair work performed
  • Participate in ongoing training to stay current with new technologies, OEM procedures, and diagnostic systems
  • Communicate repair findings clearly with Service Advisors, Parts Technicians, and service leadership
