About The Position

The Electrical Journeyman is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems in commercial, industrial, and residential settings. This role requires a deep understanding of electrical systems, codes, and safety protocols. The Electrical Journeyman works under limited supervision, often leading a team of apprentices and ensuring that all work complies with local and national electrical codes.

Requirements

  • Experience as an electrical journeyman or similar role.
  • Proven experience in commercial, residential, or industrial electrical installations and repairs.
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical systems, wiring, conduit installation, and electrical components.
  • Familiarity with National Electrical Code (NEC) and local electrical codes.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams.
  • Proficient in using hand and power tools such as wire strippers, voltmeters, conduit benders, drills, and testers.
  • Experience with specialized electrical equipment, such as transformers, circuit breakers, and generators.
  • Ability to supervise and mentor apprentices or other team members.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills to complete tasks efficiently and meet project deadlines.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with team members, supervisors, and clients.
  • Ability to explain technical issues and solutions to non-technical clients or team members.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), work in confined spaces, and perform physical tasks such as climbing ladders and bending for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work in various environments, including outdoors, in all weather conditions.
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program.
  • Valid Electrical Journeyman License for the state or jurisdiction in which work is performed.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in OSHA safety standards or other relevant safety training is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, including wiring, circuit breakers, outlets, switches, and fixtures in accordance with blueprints, technical diagrams, and specifications.
  • Install conduits, pipes, and tubing for electrical cables and wiring.
  • Set up electrical panels, control systems, and motor controls.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical issues, such as short circuits, faulty wiring, and electrical equipment malfunctions.
  • Repair or replace defective components, such as breakers, fuses, and wiring.
  • Test electrical systems using tools like voltmeters, ammeters, and ohmmeters to ensure functionality and safety.
  • Lead a team of apprentices or laborers to complete electrical projects on time and within budget.
  • Review blueprints and technical diagrams to ensure all work meets project specifications and standards.
  • Coordinate with site supervisors, general contractors, and other trades to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Follow all OSHA safety regulations and National Electrical Code (NEC) standards while working on electrical systems.
  • Ensure work areas are safe and hazard-free by using proper lockout/tagout procedures and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Identify potential safety hazards and report them to supervisors or resolve them immediately.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections of electrical systems to ensure proper functionality and safety.
  • Keep accurate records of repairs, installations, and maintenance work performed.
  • Ensure that all electrical installations are completed with high-quality workmanship and attention to detail.
