About The Position

This position is represented by the Plumbers & Steamfitters, Local 367, and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union. Employees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps. Candidates must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances. Candidates shall be referred and considered for this position in the order as follows per the Collective Bargaining Agreement: Internal candidates currently working under the Plumbers & Steamfitters (Local 367) Collective Bargaining Agreement, Local union dispatched candidates, and External candidates and other current Municipal employees not covered under this agreement.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Five (5) years of journeyman plumber experience, which may include a combination of experience and completion of an apprenticeship or training program in plumbing sufficient to equal five (5) years experience.
  • Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) background check at time of hire.
  • Valid State of Alaska Driver’s License and satisfactory Driving Record at time of hire.
  • Alaska Department of Labor Certificate of Fitness - Journeyman Plumber
  • Municipality of Anchorage Plumbing License

Responsibilities

  • Perform all necessary plumbing and heating tasks associated with Facility Maintenance in facilities, pools, and parks throughout the Municipality, including troubleshooting and repairing fixtures, irrigation systems, swimming pools, boilers, gas supply, water supply, and drain systems.
  • Maintain heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to include monitoring, calibrating, and repairing controls on electronic, pneumatic, and computerized systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
