About The Position

The Journey Lineman constructs and maintains overhead transmission and distribution lines, poles, towers, fixtures, streetlights, field capacitors, voltage regulators, reclosers, anchors, guy wires and services, and remove and install transformers. Construct and maintain overhead and underground transmission and distribution lines, poles, towers, install banners, fixtures, service transformers, streetlights, and ballpark lights, by using boats, barges, ladders, and vehicles, located on land and/or over water. Work from ladders, bucket trucks, climb wood poles and concrete poles, and steel structures on land and/or over water. Troubleshoot overhead/underground conductors, transformers, services, meter sockets, and service panels. Maintain, service, upgrade, and install substation equipment in an energized environment (120-volt to 138,000-volt). Perform scheduled 24-hour “on call” assignments. Know and follow safety procedures as outlined in the latest version of the APPA Safety Manual including but not limited to: Promote accident prevention and follow all KEYS adopted safety practices and policies, including wearing all required personal protective equipment Guidelines and safety practices of KEYS and APPA for working on energized lines of up to 138 KV Review and identify any issues that need to be addressed prior to following switching orders in accordance with KEYS’ switching procedures.

Requirements

  • Experience as a Journey Lineman
  • Knowledge of APPA Safety Manual
  • Knowledge of KEYS adopted safety practices and policies
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment
  • Knowledge of KEYS and APPA safety practices for working on energized lines up to 138 KV
  • Ability to review and identify issues before following switching orders

  • Works from boats, barges, ladders, and vehicles, located on land and/or over water.
  • Works from ladders, bucket trucks, climbs wood poles and concrete poles, and steel structures on land and/or over water.
  • Troubleshoots overhead/underground conductors, transformers, services, meter sockets, and service panels.
