About The Position

This is a full-time, permanent reporting position within Postmedia's news teams, specifically assigned to the Fredericton Daily Gleaner. The role is remote and suitable for graduating students or recent graduates who are enterprising self-starters and team players with a knack for identifying stories that resonate with a diverse readership. A key aspect of the role involves utilizing digital tools to develop and break stories. Successful candidates will work under tight deadlines to cover a variety of news and other subjects. There is a possibility of assignment to other Postmedia newsrooms by mutual agreement. The position may include some weekend and statutory holiday work.

Requirements

Graduating journalism school student or graduate, or a candidate from a related field.
Ability to quickly layer and prioritize tasks to learn the job effectively.
Flexibility to work effectively in breaking news, features, short-form, and non-traditional story formats.
Natural curiosity and a drive to uncover hidden story angles.
Talent or developing talent for explanatory journalism.
Ability to concisely convey the 'why' and 'how' of events to readers.
Legally eligible to work in Canada.

Nice To Haves

Newsroom experience.
Experience and strength in video, podcast presentation, and other digital tools.
A valid driver's license.
Access to a personal vehicle.
Bilingualism in English/French.

Responsibilities

Develop content to engage audiences across several platforms, tailored for web and mobile.
Generate story ideas daily and demonstrate flexibility to pivot to other newsroom priorities.
Utilize social media and digital tools to identify breaking news and trending topics.
Cultivate sources to break stories and influence the news agenda.
Collaborate with digital teams to create interactive content, including text, photo, video, and other multimedia elements.
