About The Position

Steel Encounters is seeking a Structural Joist and Deck Detailer. Detailers produce detailed drawings, models, and plans using CAD software such as Revit and other design applications. These drawings provide precise instructions for the fabrication and installation of steel joist and metal decking components. The role involves working closely with project managers, customers, manufacturers, and jobsite personnel to ensure project requirements are met. An associate degree in Computer-Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) or equivalent work experience is required. This position is in-person and located in either our Salt Lake City, Utah office or our Jacksonville, Arkansas Office.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience with joist and deck or steel construction or detailing on commercial and industrial projects
  • Strong Microsoft office skills including word, excel, and outlook
  • Strong Mathematics
  • Proficient with Microsoft Software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.), Bluebeam, Procore and other cloud-based apps., Smartsheet, etc.
  • Autodesk products including but not limited to AutoCAD and Revit
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. This position is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree in CAD is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Interpreting Design Documents – analyzing architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and other design documents to understand project requirements and translate them into detailed fabrications and installation plans.
  • Creating Detailed Drawings – Using computer-aided design (CAD) software and other drafting tools to produce accurate and detailed drawings, models, and diagrams that depict the dimensions, materials, and assembly methods for steel joist and metal decking components.
  • Compliance – adhering to industry standards, building codes, and regulatory requirements throughout the detailing process to ensure that fabrication and installation plans comply with safety, structural, and environmental regulations.
  • Reviewing and Revising Drawings – Conducting thorough reviews and revisions of drawings and models to identify errors, inconsistencies, or potential issues, and making necessary adjustments to optimize efficiency and accuracy.
  • Communication and Coordination – Facilitating communication and coordination between different departments, vendors, and suppliers involved in the fabrication and installation process, and providing timely updates and clarifications to ensure smooth project progress.
