About The Position

The Job Coach provides training in work habits and work skills to individuals receiving services at Goodwill of the Southern Alleghenies. This role involves serving as a role model, interacting effectively with participants and employers, and promoting a positive image of Goodwill. The Job Coach is responsible for preparing site and task analyses, providing systematic instructions, and ensuring work quality meets employer and agency standards. They also communicate with Employment Specialists, monitor participant performance, and assist with job matching and fostering natural supports.

Requirements

  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED
  • Six months of paid or volunteer experience working with people with physical disabilities or older adults.
  • Basic computer literacy including Word, Access, and Excel
  • Must be able to obtain acceptable results for required background checks, including Act 151 Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, Pennsylvania Criminal History Check and Department of Human Services- FBI Fingerprints.
  • Employee will be screened on an ongoing monthly basis to determine if he/she has been excluded from participation in federal healthcare programs.
  • A valid driver’s license, with a clean driving record and dependable transportation.
  • An operating telephone, so that he/she may be contacted quickly by Goodwill when necessary.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Extremely dependable in attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to learn and use acceptable and effective techniques for training and interacting with agency participants.
  • Ability to do prolonged standing and walking up to 8 hrs.
  • Ability to do frequent bending, stooping, stretching, pushing and pulling.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 lbs. frequently, and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Vision and hearing corrected to within normal limits.
  • Capable of conforming to the high standard of behavior expected of all staff.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a role model to participants in work behaviors, grooming, and social behaviors in the workplace.
  • Interact appropriately and effectively with participants and employers.
  • Interact in an appropriate manner with the community, promoting a positive image of Goodwill.
  • Work congenially and effectively with other employees.
  • Complete the Basic Employment Services Certificate of Achievement and/or Discovery and Customized Employment Process Training within one year of hire.
  • Learn and use acceptable and effective techniques for training and interacting with agency participants.
  • Follow company policies and safety procedures, and assure that customers/clients under supervision follow the same.
  • Complete CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Attend all required trainings.
  • Attend and participate in program/team/review meetings.
  • Report to the work site as a Job Coach, at the participant’s competitive employment or paid work-experience site.
  • Prepare a site and task analysis for the job and provide systematic task/behavior instructions.
  • Promote and adhere to the elements of the compliance program, operating within the laws, rules, and regulations required.
  • Report any non-compliance issues to your supervisor or Corporate Compliance Officer.
  • Report any participant allegation of abuse and neglect to the Employment Specialist immediately; if the Employment Specialist is not available, the Job Coach must inform another Employment Specialist or the Coordinator of Community Employment Services immediately.
  • Provide supervision and hands-on-training of agency participants assigned to the Job Coach, including teaching specific work tasks, work behaviors, and social behaviors.
  • Provide encouragement, praise, verbal prompts, and other forms of reinforcement to participants.
  • Correct inappropriate behaviors within guidelines set by Goodwill and provided by the participant’s Employment Specialist.
  • Ensure that all work performed by Goodwill participants is done to the quality standards of the participant’s employer and of Goodwill.
  • Communicate frequently with the Employment Specialists, providing information regarding participant's work and behaviors, significant or unusual incidents.
  • Document and submit required information in a professional and timely manner.
  • Monitor participant’s performance.
  • Suggest modifications to tasks to allow participants to learn new tasks or be more productive.
  • Suggest different training techniques or goals for participants.
  • Follow Goodwill’s Confidentiality Policy regarding participants and other sensitive agency information.
  • Assist participants in job matching, identifying and analyzing jobs.
  • Determine and foster natural supports.
  • Transfer supervision and support to co-workers at the work site.
  • Facilitate group instruction, classes and job club as needed.
  • Transport trainees/participants to and from job sites when directed by supervisor.
  • Operate agency vehicles in a safe manner, within local traffic laws, and within reasonable care at all times.
  • Perform other functions for the benefit of the agency as requested.
