About The Position

This is a full time 40+ hour position in Red Oak, Ia. The Community Employment - Job Coach is directly responsible to the Community Employment Team Leader. The role involves providing direct training and support to individuals on community job sites, implementing goals and objectives, and carrying out instructional activities consistent with individual’s training objectives. The Job Coach will document individual performance daily, keep charts and reports up to date, and submit data to the supervisor as requested. Responsibilities also include attending staff meetings, handling transportation to and from job sites if requested, learning tasks of community job sites to train individuals, and being available for support and follow-up. Communication with the supervisor regarding behavior intervention data is necessary. The Job Coach will integrate individuals with their co-workers, provide a model for appropriate interaction, and assist employers in working through employment problems, encouraging direct interaction between the employer and the individual. The role also involves working with the employer on performance evaluations and completing employment advocacy with employers, co-workers, and customers. Essential functions include providing job coaching and follow-up support at community work sites, assisting with transportation, providing written documentation, representing the agency, and serving the needs of individuals who may have behavior disorders with aggressive outbursts. Physical assistance may be required. The role requires the physical ability to do job coaching, perform a variety of tasks in various environments, and travel between locations. The ability to learn and teach tasks to persons with disabilities is essential. Training will occur on job sites during needed hours. All staff must comply with HIPAA regulations regarding Protected Health Information (PHI), with assigned security clearance levels determining access to information.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must have six months work experience in direct support capacity.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and early mornings.
  • Ability and capability to obtain and maintain valid Iowa Chauffeur’s license. Maintain acceptable driving records, as required by agency insurance company.
  • Adaptability to new work conditions and change.
  • Ability to apply job training methods such as cues, behavior reinforcement, prompting techniques, and other training concepts.
  • Ability to assess job performance and record accurately.
  • Must exhibit ability to meet people and to carry on social as well as professional conversations.
  • A professional and personal image and attitude is needed to represent persons served the agency itself.
  • Individual “must not have or be a carrier” of a serious infectious or communicable disease, such as but not limited to, incurable, fatal, or debilitating diseases, which cannot be eliminated or reduced by reasonable accommodation. Current examples would include, but not be limited to, tuberculosis. Determination of the existence of a serious disease is to be made by the proper medical authorities.
  • Physical ability to do job coaching.
  • Ability to learn to do a variety of tasks and to teach people with disabilities to do these tasks.
  • Ability to work in a variety of environments, including industrial, fast food, motels, hospitals, restaurants, grocer/retail stores, etc.
  • Must not have been legally convicted of any type of assault, abuse or bodily injury.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment when the situation requires immediate decision-making.
  • Physical exam prior to employment and every four years thereafter.
  • Ability to complete 10-hour med-management class.
  • Must become certified in Job Coaching within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct training and support to individuals on community job sites.
  • Implement goals and objectives, and methods for achieving them. Carry out instructional activities consistent with individual’s training objectives.
  • Document individual performance daily. Keep all charts and daily reports up to date and accurate. Submit data to supervisor as requested.
  • Attend and participate in any staff meetings.
  • If requested, handle transportation to and from job sites at the beginning of each placement.
  • Learn tasks of community job sites in order to train individual. Be available as needed to provide support and follow-up.
  • Communicate with supervisor regarding the development of any necessary behavior intervention data.
  • Integrate the individual with his/her co-workers. Provide model for others for appropriate way to interact with the individual.
  • Assist employer in working through any employment problems, encouraging employer to deal directly with the individual as much as possible.
  • Work with the employer in completing regular performance evaluations with the individual.
  • Handle any other duties assigned by the Executive Director as specified and within the time frame given.
  • Complete employment advocacy with employers, co-workers, and customers.
  • Provide job coaching at community work sites and provide follow-up support.
  • Provide assistance securing transportation to community work sites.
  • Provide written documentation.
  • Represent the agency to the community.
  • Serve the needs of the individual. These people may have behavior disorders which may result in the display of aggressive outbursts of a physical nature. The individual may or may not be able to control these episodes. Physical assistance is required if the situation warrants.
  • Physical ability to do job coaching. Be able to do a variety of tasks in a variety of environments.
  • Travel from location to location in the communities where job sites are located.
  • The ability to learn to do a variety of tasks and to be able to teach these tasks to persons with disabilities.
  • Train on job sites whatever hours of the day training is needed.
  • Comply with state and federal regulations regarding HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act).
  • Maintain assigned security clearance level for PHI access.
