We are looking for a technically skilled, design-driven Job Captain to join their Commercial team in Irvine, Pleasanton, or San Diego, CA. In this role, you will work closely with a senior project leader and take ownership of key technical aspects of large projects—or several smaller projects—from late design through construction, helping to investigate, evaluate, and recommend design solutions that best serve our clients’ needs. This is a hybrid position, requiring a minimum of 3 days per week onsite at their Irvine, Pleasanton, or San Diego office.

Requirements

  • Solid understanding of building codes, with the ability to apply them across different commercial building types and construction methods.
  • Strong experience producing complete construction drawing sets from start to finish.
  • Proficiency in Revit/BIM, AutoCAD, and SketchUp ; experience with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
  • Hands‑on experience working in the construction phases of projects (RFIs, submittals, coordination, etc.).
  • Self‑motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, sound judgment, and reliable follow‑through.
  • Excellent graphic, communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to provide positive direction and leadership to architectural staff.
  • 3+ years of professional experience in architecture, including at least 1 year serving as a Job Captain .
  • Demonstrated experience on commercial projects .
  • Professional degree in architecture from a NAAB‑accredited 4‑ or 5‑year program .
  • Clear commitment to professional growth, ideally including progress toward architectural licensure.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer; visa sponsorship is not available for this role.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide architectural support and coordination from the end of Design Development through permit submittal and Construction Administration.
  • Apply advanced architectural concepts and translate design intent into clear, buildable solutions.
  • Produce, review, and refine drawings to ensure compliance with codes, project standards, and office quality expectations.
  • Help monitor project budgets and schedules while maintaining thorough documentation.
  • Prepare reports, specifications, and other technical documents as needed.
  • Collaborate with clients, consultants, and in‑house teams to maintain strong working relationships.
  • Supervise and mentor technical staff, including redlining and guiding others’ work when appropriate.
